Listening To God
Posted On 08/10/2009 19:32:52 by pm8utler
I feel that listening to God needs be accomplished with all of one’s heart, mind, soul and strength. To this end, I believe one can ‘listen’ through any of the five senses, not just ‘aurally’ through what is physiologically ‘heard’. In practicality, I rely on the what, who and/or where of that which and/or whom I either see or hear. Sometimes I hear and/or see the main message and ‘get’ that ‘it applies to me.’ Sometimes the main message will still apply, but perhaps a secondary theme or quote stands out as a comment on or suggestion regarding a particular issue with which I might be currently struggling. Some might refer to this exercise as ‘intuition,’ and I’d say “so what?” I also use prayer, contemplation, and meditation in their usually recognized formats. I also make use of the plant and animal world. Case in point could be if I saw a bald eagle while driving to work. I could view the sighting as an affirmation from God that going to work was the correct thing I ought be doing to achieve a certain amount of independence in my life. I don’t believe that sighting the eagle was a sign of good luck, or an omen of sort. Seeing an eagle has never actually coordinated with the receipt of a pay raise later in the day. But to me, its been that God was reassuring me that all is well. On another day, I might miss the eagle but suddenly become aware that I’ve seen several squirrels. I might become convinced that God is initiating a conversation with regarding my financial savings habits, or a reminder to visit a grocery store to purchase something I needed that day. My prayers are usually when I initiate or follow-up in a conversation with God, and what or whom I see or hear is most likely God initiating or following-up in, a conversation with God. –Wolf Whispering Thunder Owl
