Youth in Peril
Posted On 12/16/2009 23:19:42 by vernpaul
A teacher recently went up to a student reading the Bible during silent reading time and took away the Bible stating, “You can not read that! God is not appropriate reading material for this time!” She then quickly gave the kid a book called Captain Underpants and told the student sternly, “If I catch you reading that Book again I am going to have to notify your parents and send you to the Principals office.”

Is this too far fetched of a scenario? Not on your life. I taught eight years in the public school system, believe me this stuff happens on a daily basis. Close to 92% of the students in the public schools system believe there is a God. Over 94% of the students believe in Jesus. Yet we have a problem saying there is God in the schools. We would rather our student’s read garbage like Captain Underpants then the Bible. The Bible is a book the last time I checked. Now days we have people in the New York Post seeking advice from a former call girl about relationship advice. Go figure. Is the world run by morons? Did I miss something? Perhaps I walked through the “Looking Glass”. Up must be down and down must be up. We no longer seek relationship advice from people who have been married for over 50 years rather we look for advice from someone who broke up a marriage. This new world order is rapidly becoming a night mare where if it lasts any longer I will be looking for Freddie Krugar. I never thought I would see the day where sexuality in the schools was so openly expressed like buying a Big Mac at McDonalds. God is out and sex is in. Guys go around dressed in pink pants and purple pants talking about how gay they are and when they can go “hook up” with the next guy. These are the high school students of the day. They are confused and seeking God in the wrong places. Their God is the all mighty dollar and their church is run by Satan. Am I being a bit too harsh on the young people of the day?

I do not think I am. Are they to blame for all this insanity? No, they are not. Divorce rates are high in this country and educational standards are lagging far behind. God just seems to have taken a back seat in families where surviving is more important. Kids today are lucky to grow up with just one mother and one father. I know of a lady who has six kids and each child has a different father. When you grow up with parents like that, no wonder God has taken a back seat.

The next generation will be raising their kids and growing up in this Godless society of ours. All we can do is to keep praying and going to church. Satan marches on and seems like he is winning. We need to march on to prove him wrong. Please feel free to prove me wrong. Show me where God is working wonders in our youth. This is not a challenge, I just want to die knowing there is hope.

The inexorable trend over the last fifty yrears has shown a sustained move from the relatively traditional values of the past. Acceptance of contraception, cohabitation, divorce and abortion are a reflection of the changing norms of our society in general. The family unit is no longer the cradle of life and love that it used to be; the primary source of personal identity. As a result children are growing up with no sense of absolute values; not knowing or caring what is right or wrong. Although, as you well said, an astonishingly high number of students yearn for religious guidance, only a few avail themselves of the services offered by the church. The more profound dimensions of existence - interpersonal, spiritual and religious - are being neglected. The never ending quest for a better quality of life has become the root of all evil. I'm sad to say that I see little hope for this eclipse of the sense of God, inevitably leading to a practical materialism, to end.
