In the second reading, St Paul speaks of teaching what he himself had been taught. It is our duty to pass on what we have been taught although this is one of the most troubling issues confronting believers today. The readings from Isaiah and Luke illustrate that faith is an encounter with Christ, that reveals to us whom we really are. The story of Isaiah's calling and of the unsightful encounter between Jesus and Peter by the lake of Geennesareth encourage us to discover our deep identity; not a goal to be achieved but a gift to be received. In the vision of God's glory, Isaiah feels he is a man of unclean lips; St Paul believes he is the least of Christ's disciples and St Peter humbly declares he is a sinner. Before we discover our true identity, there is much dissolving and shaking of ego that we have to endure.
