Were your prayers answered?
Posted On 12/03/2010 09:39:21 by vernpaul

Most of know about prayer. We go to church on Sundays and offer up our prayers to our Lord. If we only knew how God decides which prayers should be answered. Of course we do not. It is only my first cup of coffee this morning so bear with me. If we only knew what the criteria was for God. Do you think that would change the way we act and pray? Perhaps not. Humans tend not to be that organized. Ok, I am not that organized.

I was reading an article the other day in the St. Anthony Messenger. It had a story about a lady who prayed a lot. Excuse me, going for second cup of coffee,Ok, Anyways the article spoke about receiving a sign from God that your loved one was ok. A lady prayed to God to give her a sign that her father, who recently had passed was ok. She was praying in New Mexico, at a chapel in Santa Fe for a sign that her father was at peace. As she prayed she saw,as she states..." I noticed the Chamisas were done blooming. but then I spotted one chamisa with mounds of yellow flowers that seemed to be bowing, almost genuflecting, in the wind. Thats odd, I thought, and went to investigate. The blossoms were loaded with butterflies...in the fall...This lady took this as a sign from God that her father was with God.

How often do we overlook the unusual and dismiss it. After my father died I was uneasy. I was living in sin with a lady I hardly knew. I was just sick with grief and unhappy. The uneasiness would not go away. If finally did when I ended the relationship. Was my father telling me something? Do people and God communicate with us beyond the grave. As Catholics we believe they do. This is the communion of the saints. As Catholics we believe that there is a large body of saints that help us out. Perhaps our deceased loved ones become part of this body. A body of small saints joining the larger body of saints. I am not sure on this but I know I am at peace with my father and I know he has communicated to me and I feel he is in heaven at peace. The uneasiness is gone. I am married now and am with the person I truly was meant to be with. My father is smiling down on me and I know I have his blessing.

Here is a prayer that I am borowing from St. Anthony Messenger, November 2009:

In our grief and sorrow, Lord, We humbly ask that you quickly bring our deceased loved ones home to you. We know the closer we earthlings are to you, Lord, the happier we become. And in heaven, a soul's happiness must be uncontainable! And when we earthlings are happy, our happiness spills over to others. Lord, may our love ones in heaven be so filled with happiness that their happiness spills over to us here on the earth . Amen.

If you have recieved a sign from your loved ones, please post here. Thanks and Merry Christmas. Prayer for Deceased Loved Ones

Expect God to help you without begging or pleading. Just pray simply and tell Him that you need Him; that you hunger for a closer relationship with Him. Thank God for forgiving your sins through Christ's death on the cross, and surrender your life to the Lord Jesus. Invite Him to fill you with the Holy Spirit and you will begin to experience a greater love for God. The Lord knows what we need; just believe and trust that the Lord is always there to help you. Asking for a sign shows lack of faith.
